Orthodontics is a specialization required department of dentistry and it aims treating dental irregularities and jaw incompatibilities.
For becoming an orthodontist you should receive residency education 4 more years after you have graduated from 5 years dental faculty. However, nowadays some of the dentists are trying to make orthodontic treatments by a few days certificate programs and due to this, patient sufferings can be observed.
Orthodontics includes all irregularities and their treatments related with teeth and jaws. Orthodontist or orthodontics specialist plans an ideal face aesthetic and chewing system and creates a natural and beautiful smile for you with your own teeth.
Orthodontic treatment is a kind of treatment which requires knowledge and experience and should only be performed by an ORTHODONTIST .
There is no age limitation in orthodontic treatment. Even when you are in advanced age orthodontic treatment can be done if your teeth are healthy.
The basic of orthodontic treatment is to provide a straight teeth alignment by moving teeth. Usually, teeth are straightened by means of braces which are applied from the front sides of teeth. Braces can be applied from the front sides of teeth, metal or tooth color (porcelain) and also it can be applied from the back sides of teeth by completely hiding braces (lingual orthodontics). Besides, in appropriate cases it is possible to straighten teeth by using aligner systems(invisalign, clear aligner).
In some cases, it’s not enough to straighten all teeth in compatible with each other. Problems concerning jaw skeleton like lower jaw being protruded, intruded or asymmetrical can be solved by orthodontic surgery in other words jaw operations which are performed together with orthodontic treatment.
